FAQs

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY HEADSHOTS?
First off, be ready to enjoy your shoot -- trust me, it will be easy and I guarantee you will enjoy the process! With that said, here are some tips:
-Build extra time into your schedule so you are not rushing to get to your shoot. You want to be relaxed for your session so give yourself as much time as possible to arrive and park.
-Try to get plenty of sleep the night before your shoot and drink plenty of water the day before and the day of your session.
-Keep your lips moisturized leading up to your session, and be sure to bring lip balm to keep your lips from looking dry during your shoot.
-Try on your clothing the day before your shoot (at minimum) to make sure there are no distracting wrinkles, creases, or stains. Make sure your clothes are camera ready, and take care when traveling with your clothes. Please do not squeeze them into a small bag where they will wrinkle in transit. Check that you have all of your accessories needed for your headshots.
-Bring any hair and/or makeup products that you might need for your session. Although I have products at the studio, it is usually best for you to use the products that you know work well with your hair and skin.
-Don't try new products right before your shoot that could irritate your skin. Give yourself at least one week before your shoot to experiment with new makeup or products.
-If you are getting a haircut or color, please try to do this a few days to one week prior to your session so your hair has settled in time for your shoot.
-Take a close look in the mirror at your eyebrows, nose and teeth before coming to your shoot and make sure these features are camera ready.
-I have water and snacks in case you need a refresher during your shoot, but feel free to bring any beverages or snacks if you prefer to have your own.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY HEADSHOTS?
No matter what type of headshot you are shooting, bring your favorite clothes for your headshots - you have to feel good to look good! And unless you have been specifically asked by your corporation, manager, agent, etc. to wear a specific color scheme or style, I encourage you to wear whatever represents you best. If you're unsure what will look best, bring numerous outfits - options are great! We will always review your images together during your shoot to see if the look is working for you. Given that, here are a few things to consider:
Logos: Skip clothing with distracting logos or words/graphics - unless you are promoting a business through your clothing. Small logos can be removed with retouching.
Colors: Colorful jewel tones look great; pastels, black, white, and neutrals all work as well. Fluorescent colors and clothing with glitter, sequin or shine are not recommended.
Layers: Well fitted blazers, jackets, vests, sweaters and hoodies (for actors) all look great! If you have a loose layer that you want to try, we can clip it to improve the fit.
Prints: Don't be afraid of prints - prints can be fun! If you have any doubts, we can always do test shots to see how it comes across. 
Fit: Form-fitting clothes work best; avoid anything too loose or baggy. Layers look great in headshots, but be sure your bottom layer is form fitting and not making your top layer look bumpy or bulky. Clothes should be pressed and lay flat. Try on your outfits the day before your headshot, take a close look in the mirror, and check for any wrinkles, creases, stains, etc. that could be distracting. Consider the necklines of your shirts - an interesting neckline can add some flair to your headshot. Just stay away from large bows or scarves that could add too much bulk around your neck and cover your jawline. Bring various styles (unless you are required to dress in a specific style) so we can see what works best. If you are considering tank tops, plan to wear your hair behind your shoulders as long hair can cover up thin straps. 
Dress shirts, suits and ties: If you are wearing a full suit, please be sure your collar stays down and the knot of your tie is even and centered. If you are wearing an undershirt beneath your dress shirt, be sure it does not add bulk or cause wrinkles. You will most likely need to secure the top button of your blazer, so please be sure the suit fits well. It is nearly impossible to avoid any wrinkles or creases in a dress shirt, but a fitted, well-pressed shirt helps.
Blazers: Blazers look great over a dress shirt and hide some of those unavoidable wrinkles. The layered look is also flattering, so consider bringing a blazer even if you want to look more casual in your headshots. We will always review your images together and you can decide at your shoot if the look is working for you.
Dressing head to toe: Needless to say, if you are shooting full-length shots, you need to be dressed head to toe. If you are shooting 3/4 shots you need to be prepared for your legs to be in the picture, but shoes will not be photographed. If you are shooting headshots only, you need to be camera-ready from the waist up -- but feel free to dress head to toe if that's how you feel your best. 
Jewelry: If you are shooting business headshots feel free to wear whatever jewelry represents you best, as long as it does not distract from your face. If big jewelry is your style, bring it along and try it -- you should look like yourself in your headshot. Keep in mind that long necklaces will usually be cut out of a headshot. Shorter necklaces work best for head-and-shoulder shots. However, if you are shooting actor headshots, small earrings are fine and maybe a small necklace, but it's best to go minimal or just skip the jewelry. ​
DO I NEED PROFESSIONAL HAIR AND MAKEUP FOR MY HEADSHOTS?
Professional hair and makeup is not required for your headshots. However, we highly recommend our professional makeup artist for a camera-ready, finished look.  Keep in mind that what is most important about your headshot is that you look like yourself, so please do not change your typical hair style for your headshot or wear bolder makeup colors than you typically would.  If you do have professional hair done prior to your shoot, please be sure that it represents you accurately. Lip balm is recommended for everyone to keep your lips looking moisturized. Avoid iridescent products and anything with glitter. If you have blemishes or other temporary marks on your face, you do not need to reschedule -- we can retouch them.  Retouching is included with all images and is always completed very naturally. You will never look "retouched."
WHEN WILL MY ONLINE PROOFS BE AVAILABLE? ​
Your online, password-protected proofs will be available typically within 24 hours of your headshot session. Proofs are posted for 30 days and are kept on file for one year from the day of your shoot. ​
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY RETOUCHED IMAGES?
Your retouched images are typically available for download via a Dropbox folder within 24 hours of receiving your order. 
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED, AND WHERE DO I PARK?
My studio address is 18 Bank Street, Suite 200, in Summit, NJ. The awning on the outside of the building is labeled "18-22." Please note that my studio is on the second floor and unfortunately the building does not have an elevator.

There is metered street parking and a small metered lot on Bank Street, limited to 1.5 hours of parking (exact change, credit card or Park Mobile are accepted). There are also 5-hour public parking lots on Deforest Avenue and Union Place (both between Beechwood Road and Summit Avenue). Metered parking is from 8:00am-6:00pm. Parking is free after 6:00pm.
